VMN Indoor Kart Racing Series Thursday March 6/14 7:00 p.m. Race # 6 Results

Top 3

Again Todd Christiansen & this time David Christiansen missed the race due to work at the last moment, which is too bad for David Christiansen as he was doing so well in the points. The big difference in the race this time was a new track configuration that included to 2 straights, and 4 hairpin turns, so the twisty bits made it a challenging course to manage which caused 2 cautions.

Practice started off new for everyone except Chris Sun as he helped set up the new course. The track is more technical with times slower and a good work out for the old arms. The practice was lead by Chris Sun followed by Paul Lamoureux with Darren Leece in third. Robb Leece in was in 4th place which makes a good rivalary between the 2 Leece brothers. This session was different for Doug Chandler who came in 9th but said “just could not get a rhythm.”

Qualifying was lead by Chris Sun followed by Paul Lamoureux but this time no surprise Blair Snow came in 3rd from 5th place. Darren Leece was in 4th place followed by Rory Nagassar 5th place, Doug Chandler was in 6th place followed by Robb Leece in 7th place, Darren Henry was in 8th place followed by Chris Paavola in 9th place. Lastly was Michael Webber was in 10th place, there were a no cautions in qualifying but there was quite a bit of rubbing & bumping.

Since the new track was so much tighter we were all expecting a lot of cautions in the grid position start & race, but the caution did not come out. In the pace lap the wall was hit & moved on the back straight, which bunched up the group but was not major enough to stop the start of the race or cause a caution. After the start of a race it was green flag racing with a bit of rubbing, bumping & warnings from the starter for contact. Chris Sun won his 2nd race of the season followed by Paul Lamoureux  & stopped his winning streak to 2 races. No surprise Blair Snow came in 3rd for the 3rd time in a final race. Doug Chandler was in 4th place followed by Darren Leece in 5th place, Rory Nagassar was in 6th place followed by Chris Paavola in 7th place, Robb Leece was in 8th place followed by Michael Webber in 9th place, lastly Darren Henry was in 10th place.

Chris Sun has a great 100 lead in the points over 2nd place Doug Chandler 398 with 1 race day left in the season he is almost guaranteed the championship. As for the rivalry between the 2 Leece brothers Darren Leece is in 3rd place with 369 points over brother Robb Leece in was in 4th place with 333 points.

Two racers have already paid, we need 10-12, 20-24 or 30-36. Plus if we have 20 people we will have the place to ourselves. Cut off for how big our group is, is 1 week prior to the event – no exceptions. There’s 10 spots left in group A, but lets get 20!

After the Final Race of the 2013-2014 Season Thursday April 3/14 7:00 p.m. Race # 7 we will be having beer & wings at The Black Bull Pub 53 Hunterhorn Rd NE, Calgary, AB.  I checked out the Pub & it might be too noisy at the Pub to do awards so after the final race I will take 5 minutes to do the points & hand out the season awards. Afterwards anyone wanting to have beer & wings at The Black Bull Pub can head over as it is pay for your own.

Lastly – I was talking to Speeders staff and I mentioned some of the racers were thinking of an oval would be fun to do. So here it is: If we pick an oval for a Sunday at 8:00 pm, give assistance in setting up the track and have 20 racers, we could do an oval race.

We were talking about doing a tri-oval or we could just do one big one like Indy. Timing would probably be best a Sunday in June at 8:00 pm, anyone interested please contact me & let me know. Contact me at cpaavola@velocitymotorsportsnews.com Velocity 587-349-2520.
