Verizon IndyCar Series prepares to do doubleheaders in Houston

The Shell and Pennzoil Grand Prix of Houston will mark the 2nd of 3 doubleheaders on the 2014 Verizon IndyCar Series schedule. A pair of 90-lap races Saturday and Sunday on the 1.69-mile temporary street circuit at NRG Park.

Will Power has wins at St. Petersburg and Belle Isle & finds himself on top of the Verizon IndyCar Series point standings. He also won in the 2nd Houston race in 2013 and is the only driver to finish in the top 10 in every race, so far.

Ryan Hunter-Reay finished 1st or 2nd in 4 of the first 5 races, including his biggest win of his career the 98th Indianapolis 500 on May 25.

Marco Andretti the grandson of racing legend Mario Andretti and son of Michael Andretti comes to Houston in search of his 1st win of the season. Graham Rahal. The son of Bobby Rahal hopes at Houston, where he earned his first podium in 2007.

Takuma Sato has 2 pole positions in 2014 will be trying to bring his boss the four-time Indianapolis 500 A.J. Foyt a win in his home State. James Hinchcliffe, Simon Pagenaud and Charlie Kimball all won their 1st win in 2013 & finished Top 10 in the championship points. One of them could be a contender for the Verizon IndyCar Series Championship.

Race Notes:

The Shell and Pennzoil Grand Prix of Houston will be the fifth Indy car race conducted at MD Anderson Cancer Center Speedway at NRG Park. Scott Dixon and Will Power split the doubleheader races at the track in 2013. Takuma Sato and Helio Castroneves won the pole at the track in 2013.

Sebastien Bourdais has won twice at MD Anderson Cancer Center Speedway at NRG Park, the most wins by an Indy car driver at the track. Bourdais won in 2006 and 2007 in Champ Car. He along with former winners Scott Dixon (2013 – Race 1) and Will Power (2013 – Race 2) are entered in this year’s race.
