18-Year-Old Emma Fitzpatrick from Brooks Alberta is the 1st woman to win an IMCA Canada Modified Feature Race at Dinosaur Downs Speedway on Sunday August 14/22. It was a hot 2-day weekend at Dinosaur Downs Speedway. On Saturday August 13 there was 1 heat race & 1 main, she was 6th place in the heat race & 2nd place in the main. On Sunday August 14 there were 2 heat races & 1 main, she was 4th place in the 1st heat & DNF in the 2nd heat due to brakes. She & her boyfriend Bailey worked on the brakes over the intermission & were able to get her out for the main. She didn’t know she was going to win but just did her best. Emma said she thought they were right behind her, when in fact she had a nice lead by the checkered flag.
Emma started racing at 6 years old in Mini Sprints, then she moved onto Mini Cups at 10-11 years old at Medicine Hat Speedway, Edmonton International Raceway & Hythe Motor Speedway. Then she ran her 4 Cylinder car in the Medicine Hat Speedway Rumblebees 6 Cylinder Class & got 2- feature wins. Then she brought the same car to Dinosaur Downs Speedway, ran 3 races with 1 feature win & 2 Top 5s in the other races.
Racing ran in the Fitzpatrick family with Emma’s Grandfather Merl, Uncle Jesse & Cousin Kajun. A proud Grandfather Merl Fitzpatrick moved Emma into his Black Magic Racing IMCA Sport Mod which she has been racing for 3 seasons now. She has raced the IMCA Sport Mod at Dinosaur Downs Speedway, Edmonton International Raceway, Medicine Hat Speedway, Central Alberta Raceway & Swift Current. 2022 has been a great year for Emma who just turned 18 July 28th, in the July race weekend she was 3rd place in the 3-day Raptor Run & now her 1st feature win. Now if you want to see Emma race, she will be in the biggest IMCA Race: the 26th running of the Annugas Roy Ross Memorial Race at Edmonton International Raceway August 20/22.
