The Medicine Hat Drag Racing Association (MHDRA) is the organization that operates the Medicine Hat Drag Strip—a well‑known 1/4‑mile drag racing facility in southeastern Alberta. It’s one of the most active grassroots motorsport venues in the province, hosting everything from street‑legal nights to national‑level events.

Dear Fellow Drag Racing Enthusiasts and Community Supporters,
For decades, the Medicine Hat Drag Strip – the longest standing NHRA-sanctioned 1/4-mile drag racing facility in Alberta – has been the heart of high-speed excitement in Southern Alberta. From thunderous Super Pro runs and blazing Pro Bike passes, to the inspiring starts of our Junior Dragster and Junior Street programs, we’ve provided a safe, controlled environment where racers of all ages can push their limits, build skills, and create lifelong memories.
But today, our racing surface urgently needs your help. The concrete in our lanes has worn down over years of intense use, affecting safety, performance, and consistency. To keep delivering world-class racing and ensure the strip remains open for future generations, we must replace the concrete – a critical project estimated at $750,000. Our goal is to replace the complete 1/4 mile surface in both lanes.
This isn’t just about fixing pavement. It’s about:
- Safety first: Providing the best possible surface for racers, from seasoned pros to young beginners.
- Keeping racing off the streets: Promoting our motto – “On the strip, not the street” – in a professional, NHRA-sanctioned venue.
- Inspiring the next generation: Giving kids and teens a positive outlet to learn valuable trades like mechanics, engineering, welding, and electrical work through hands-on involvement in drag racing.
We’ve been very fortunate to have a bit of a head start with funding this project. Through a lot of hard work from some dedicated members we’ve secured a grant through the Alberta Government for a portion of the project. But that means we need to match that funding, plus a lot more to make our goal of a full 1/4 mile resurface a reality. This is where you come in. Your support will directly fund this vital resurfacing and help us continue hosting events that bring families, friends, and fans together.
To recognize our generous donors, we’re creating a permanent Legacy Wall at the facility – a beautiful donor wall where every contributor will be honored with a personalized plaque. The size of your plaque will reflect your level of support: - $100 level: Bronze plaque
