Interview with Evolution Cup car (mini cup) driver Car 77 Faith Luther, her Lucky 7s crew & her Dad Darryl Addison.
Photo by VelocityMotorsportsNews.com Medicine Hat Speedway
Velocity: “I am here with Faith Luther Evolution Cup car/mini driver, what is your car #?”
Faith Luther: “Car 77.”
Velocity: “How long have you been racing mini cup?”
Faith Luther: “This is my second year.”
Velocity: “So what do you think of it?”
Faith Luther: “Its lots of fun, I enjoy doing it & I get to meet a lot of people. All the families are really nice.”
Velocity: “Are you doing better with getting more & more track time?”
Faith Luther: “Yes”
Velocity: “Who are your Sponsors?”
Faith Luther: “JB Water Hauling Ltd, Summit Liability Solution, Alice Embroidery, Wannasign, Dale Morrow, RC & JM.”
Velocity: “So what do you suggest for someone new getting into mini cup racing?”
Faith Luther: “I would tell them to do it because it’s a lot of fun & to try your best.”
Velocity: “Do you watch racing yourself?”
Faith Luther: “Yes”
Velocity: “Who is your favorite race car driver?”
Faith Luther: “I like Jimmy Johnson & Kasey Kaine.”
Velocity: “Darryl as a parent how did Faith get into racing?”
Darryl Addison: “Well we ended up going to a car show in Lloyd Minister & we happened to see the Kopecks at the car show. Unfortunately Autumn was not there showing her car off but Blaine was there with mom & dad. We winded up putting her in Autumn’s the 28 car & she had a pretty big smile on her face when she got out. We were looking at Jr. Dragster when she was younger but because her birthday is much later in the season she could not start until she was 9.
Velocity: “So did you do motorsports yourself?”
Darryl Addison: “I used to drag race a little bit, more as a hobby to have some fun. Big muscle, muscle power & muscle cars. This is a lot different to when I was new to it and we have learned so much coming on. Thanks to guys like Rob Hamilton, Lee Kruse & Grant, it is a totally different world for us to learn the circle track. Everyone is very helpful and it has been really good.
Velocity: “One thing people think of is safety, as a parent what do you think of the safety?
Darryl Addison: ” These cars are safe, due to how the cars & chassis are made; it is probably the safest class I find out there. The cars are really well built; they are almost over built for what they need. In our short time we have seen some pretty good crashes & a few bent chassis, but they hold up; the kids are totally safe. Safety is probably the number one thing we look at, Hans device, the Next Gen & the fire suits. They are suited up as the baby NASCAR drivers, everything is professional and everything is top of the line. Safety is 1 and spare no expense.
Velocity: “I find one thing I liked about this is that it is fairly even racing & a spec class. The most important factor is the nut behind the wheel wins the races; so it makes it easier to get into.”
Darryl Addison: “Yes, I find that all the way through, it is up to the drivers. We can give so much car & play around a little bit that way. In our tech all our engines are sealed & everything is so tight, it is up to the progression of the drivers. This last year we saw it, especially with Rylee in the 95 car as she was hugging the line, when it was time to go she got pole & ended up winning the race.”
Velocity: “So, Faith are you thinking about NASCAR? If you make it to NASCAR I get to brag as I interviewed you when you were a mini cup racer.”
Faith Luther: “Yes.”
Darryl Addison: “Even on entry level like this, its great having sponsors coming on board.”
Velocity: “Faith move up to NASCAR, so I can brag.”
Darryl Addison: “Thank you.”
