2014 June 22 F-1 Championship Austrian Grand Prix

Mercedes finishes 1 & 2 again this time at the Austrian Grand Prix for their 7th race win of 2014

Car 6 Nico Rosberg Mercedes won the Austrian Grand Prix after starting in 3rd place on the grid giving him his 3rd win of the year.

2nd place was Car 44 Lewis Hamilton Mercedes who started in 9th place and jumped up to 4th place in the 1st lap.

3rd Place was Car 77 Valtteri Bottas Williams-Mercedes who started from outside pole position earning his 1st podium finish.

4th place was Car 19 Felipe Massa Williams-Mercedes who started from pole position.

5th Place was Car 14 Fernando Alonso Ferrari started from 4th place and actually had the lead for a bit.

6th Place was Car 11 Sergio Perez Force India-Mercedes started way back in 15th place, followed by 7th place Car 20 Kevin Magnussen McLaren-Mercedes who started in 6th place.

8th Place Car 3 Daniel Ricciardo Red Bull Racing-Renault started from 5th place, followed by 9th place Car 27 Nico Hulkenberg Force India-Mercedes who started from 10th place.

Lastly in the points was 10 place Car 10 Kamui Kobayashi Caterham-Renault.

The difference in this race was Mercedes did not start from the front row as Williams-Mercedes took that honor with Car 19 Felipe Massa Williams-Mercedes on pole and team mate Car 77 Valtteri Bottas Williams-Mercedes on the outside pole.

The biggest threat to the Car 6 Nico Rosberg Mercedes win was team mate Car 44 Lewis Hamilton Mercedes who was coming up fast and just waiting for a mistake to capitalize on. In the next race I would expect Lewis Hamilton to bring a it up notch at the British Grand being it is his home track & country.

Since Car 3 Daniel Ricciardo Red Bull Racing-Renault winning the Canadian Grand Prix & Williams-Mercedes winning the front row in qualifying, Mercedes can be beat. The toughest part the other teams need to beat is Mercedes straight line speed does not have a match.

The race was sponsored by Red Bull – too bad their cars didn’t do better with Car 1 Sebastian Vettel Red Bull Racing-Renault retirement; having power problems from the start, and Car 3 Daniel Ricciardo Red Bull Racing-Renault 8th place finish.

Drivers Championship Points, Nico Rosberg 165, Lewis Hamilton 136, Daniel Ricciardo 83, Fernando Alonso 79, Sebastian Vettel 60.

Constructors Championship Points, Mercedes 301 points, Red Bull 143, Ferrari 98, Force India 87, Williams 85 and McLaren 72.
