Zeebs Performance Restorations INC. from Chesteremere, AB.are hosting an engine assembly race known as the Battle of the Technicians at the local Auto Value World of Wheels in Calgary, Alberta. This is the Inaugural race in Calgary. They are bringing this competition to the show to entertain the spectators and we look to have this event keep their interest in staying at the show and viewing the cars at a more leisure pace between the competition runs. Think as a spectator to an event and out of the corner of the building you hear an Engine fire up with open exhaust. As a car nut, during the time in the show you would look for the source of the noise, see the technicians huddling around the engines. Wondering what is going on, you take a seat and watch the action of the competition before you, seeing banners of the familiar brands you know as the best connection to the industry of your hobby.
The race consists of a head to head layout, with teams of two technicians using only select hand tools. The current record for assembly and the 5 second running, is 7 minutes, 41 seconds. The engine is a fuel injected 305, and the contestants will have Friday and Saturday to practice in 1 hour time slots. And the elimination style finals to conclude on Sunday.
Contestants start with a short block with pistons crank and cam installed: the oil pan, oil filter, timing chain and cover have to be installed, the head gaskets, heads and lifters as well as push rods and rocker arms, no assembly is on the bench, the intake and distributor installed and wiring hooked up, last to be connected will be the positive battery lead and fuel line. The engine has to run continuously for 5 seconds after starting, it can be restarted as many times as needed. Any broken parts will cost team 1 minute penalties per part.
This years participants are mostly SAIT Automotive Students.
” The EH!-Team Motorcycle Freestyle show is one of the most exciting shows on one wheel! Come check out Ryan Hawco and Craig Latimer as they show you what a 400 pound, 600cc motorcycle can really do! From Wheelies to acrobatics these two have it all covered with the most technical and jaw dropping motorcycle freestyle tricks!”
But the real stars of the World of Wheels Show are the antique, custom, muscle cars, rods, bikes, trucks, and race vehicles. Show-goers have the opportunity to view more than 250 Show Vehicles in competition for prizes and points as part of the International Show Car Association (I.S.C.A) sanctioned event. Vehicles on display are owned by Albertans as numerous Show Vehicles from across the U.S.A. See over 80 automotive – related booths displaying exceptional products and services.
Part of the Summit Racing Equipment Show Car Series and the International Show Car Association custom competition, the World of Wheels is produced by Championship Auto Shows, Inc. of Auburn Hills, Mich.
