Car 4 Kevin Harvick Budweiser Chevrolet wins the 65th Annual Bojangles’ Southern 500 in a green-white-checkered finish & became the 1st one to win 2 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series races for 2014.

Having 2 wins, Kevin Harvick is the 1st driver to have his spot locked up 16-driver Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup. Harvick becomes the first driver to win from the pole at Darlington Raceway since Dale Jarrett in 1997.

Harvick had been fast all through out the race but the key was on lap 358 caution came out, when the leaders pitted, only Harvick, Kyle Busch and Keselowski took four tires while the rest only took two. Lap 360 race off pit road: Johnson, Dale Jr., Kenseth, Gordon, Harvick, Biffle, Newman, Kyle Busch, Kurt Busch, and Keselowski.

Lap 363 Green Flag: Jimmie Johnson led the field into Turn 1. Dale Jr. made a run but was denied. Lap 365 Caution: Debris in Turn 3. On Lap 366 Harvick will restart in third. Johnson leads, Dale Jr. in second. Lap 367 Jimmie Johnson chooses the outside lane as the control car. Harvick on the inside behind Dale Jr.

Lap 369 Green Flag: Jimmie Johnson led the field into Turn 1. Lap 369 Dale Jr. takes the lead with Kevin Harvick in second and Jimmie Johnson in third. Lap 369 Caution: Kurt Busch is spun by Clint Bowyer and hits the inside wall. Lap 373Green Flag: Dale Jr. leads the field into Turn 1. Junior chooses the inside line as the control car. Lap 373 Junior with a lead but Harvick is close behind. Harvick tries the outside. Lap 374Harvick passes Dale Jr. on the outside.

CHECKERED FLAG Kevin Harvick wins the Bojangles’ Southern 500.

This was a great race to watch but it really got exciting from lap 360 when the teams were either putting on 2 tires for position or 4 tires to be faster. Plus I think the re-start would have been a different result if Jimmie Johnson would have taken the inside lane instead the outside lane to start the race. The momentum of the Hendrick Engines having the most wins I would be watching for a win from Jeff Gordon or Jimmie Johnson in the next race.
