Car 24 Chase Elliott NAPA Auto Parts Chevrolet won the 21 Means 21 Pole Award for the 58th Annual Daytona 500 with a lap of 45.845 seconds & a speed of 196.314 mph. This is his 1st pole in 6 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series races & his 1st pole & 1st Top 10 start in 2016. This is his 1st pole at Daytona International Speedway & this is Hendrick Motorsports 10th Daytona 500 pole – the series most. This is the 3rd Daytona 500 pole for the No. 24 car – Jeff Gordon (1999, 2015), Chase Elliott (2016). The Elliotts become the fourth father-son duo to win the Daytona 500 pole joining Richard and Kyle Petty, Bobby and Davey Allison and Dale Sr. and Dale Earnhardt Jr. Chase Elliott becomes the youngest Daytona 500 pole winner at the age of 20 years, 2 months and 17 days – previous record holder was Austin Dillon (2014 pole winner) – 23 years, 9 months, 27 days.

Car 24 Chase Elliott NAPA Auto Parts Chevrolet & Car 20 Matt Kenseth Dollar General Toyota will start on the front row of the Daytona 500. The rest of the cars will have to race for position in the Can-Am Duels for grid position, some teams will have to race in to make the race. The results of the front row & results of the Can-Am Duels will make the grid for the Daytona 500, unless they make un-approved adjustments, use a back-up car or engine change.
