Effective July 21, 2020, the Western Canada Motorsport Association (WCMA) is pleased to announce that we are now affiliated with the new Canadian ASN, Groupe de Développement Sportif (GDS). Sports Development Group in English.

GDS has delegated WCMA as the sporting authority for Western Canada. WCMA is looking forward to a positive relationship with GDS.

Statement from the new ASN:

Sports Development Group (GDS) has been assigned the task of rebuilding a foundation and structure for auto-sport in our country. GDS is a federally registered Not-For-Profit (NFP) organization with a three-member executive consisting of Francois Dumontier, Ron Fellows and Stephen Wetmore.

Francois is President and CEO of the Grand Prix of Canada; Ron is a retired racing driver and co-owner of Canadian Tire Motorsport Park; Stephen is the recently retired President and CEO of Canadian Tire Corporation. All three have a passion for the sport with diverse backgrounds bringing together a unique perspective and skill set in the rebuilding of Canada’s ASN.

As has been stated previously, GDS is starting from ground-zero, and with very little information on the business of the previous ASN. However, it is our intention to work inclusively with all five regions, CARS and stakeholders, to collectively provide a renewed ASN to cover the spectrum of auto-sport activities here in Canada.

What we have laid out is a strategy to create a united and collaborative effort from the regions, stakeholders and the new ASN, to build a viable National Sporting Authority for the country, thereby creating a sustainable future for the sport here in Canada.
