The 1st time I saw a claimer race I was at Race City during the June Big Rig race, it looked like a gang of people stole 20 cars & raced them. It was insane with cars going 4-6 wide into corners; it also looked like a ton of fun. This gave me the urge to get into claimer racing; at the next claimer race, I claimed my 1st car. I raced for ten years & built about ten cars; it was a lot of fun where I met the Shilson brothers. The Shilsons have been working on rebuilding the old Claimer class that was 30 cars at Race City now at Dinosaur Downs Speedway in Drumheller AB. At Dinosaur Downs Speedway dirt oval, the claimer class is called Mini Claimers with some changes, so take a look at the rules.
There are four ways to get into Claimers at Dinosaur Downs Speedway: buy, build, claim & rent. The Shilsons have 20 cars; they are a team of 6 said we’re just some hillbillies that wanna have some fun cheap. They have built so many cars only to have more people to race; this is not a profit project; this is just a love of racing wanting to get more people into it. You can go to their Facebook page to see the list of cars; they have some cars less than the claim. Build a car yourself; if you need help, they put together a video on how to build a car. Claim a car, the idea of claimers is that you can claim cars at the end of the race & it keeps racers from putting too much into the car. Lastly is car rentals; they do this for renters to get the bug and buy a car; that way, we can build more cars, increase the class, increase the field, increase the entertainment and reach for the track.
