The Northern Alberta Sports Car Club (NASCC) and the Capital City Hot Rod Association (CCHRA) had the Edmonton Speedway Revival Car Show and Fastech Performance Tire Race Event at Castrol Raceway on August 24th and 25th. The weekend was a great success with a display of CCHRA’s 60 Years of Drag Racing and NASCC Race Cars from the Edmonton Speedway Park era. Not only were these cars on display, some even took the track & almost all took in the Parade lap.

Motorsports Volunteers

Photo by VelocityMotorsportsNews.com Northern Alberta Sports Car Club (NASCC) at Castrol Raceway Nisku, Alberta

Remember watching racing can fun but being part of the race is even better. So if you are not racing come-out and volunteer the second best way to watch a race, the best way is to be in the car.

Race Volunteers make events happen-from the organizers of the event to the person taking your ticket; it takes a lot of people to make an event work. Road Racing Cars Volunteer Positions: Clerk of the Coarse, Steward, Starter, Chief Coarse Marshal, Corner Captain, Communicator, Yellow Flagger, Blue flagger, Safety, Pri-grid, Pit in & Pit out, Rescue personnel: Ambulance crew, Fireman & Clean-up Crew Tow Truck driver, Pace Car Driver, Timing personnel, Srutineer (Tech), Registration & Back Gate.

One of the coolest ways to volunteer is as a track-side marshal/corner worker. Road course marshals are race personnel that surround the road course track at specified stations that communicate to drivers with flags and each other on radios. These are a committed group of volunteers that with training and experience, can become qualified to work the big professional races like Indycar & Formula 1.

Northern Alberta Sports Car Club (NASCC) Statement:

September 8, 2019

Summer is slowly coming to an end. Hope you all have enjoyed your summer and our racing season so far.

Our last event the Fastech Performance Tire Speedway Park Revival was an outstanding success and thank you to John Kershaw for your drive and organization and a big thank you to Jay Esterer for providing his amazing collection of race cars for everyone’s enjoyment.

Our next and last weekend summer racing event happens on September 21st and 22nd and we want to thank Triple K Autobody for their continued support of ‘Racing in Alberta’.

We will be trialing a split weekend format where Saturday will be a 3.5 and 9 hour endurance race that will run concurrently. We are hoping to expand our racing schedule to include a full Endurance Racing series in 2020 so we need your assistance and registrations to do this. After the Endurance race on Saturday the NASCC will host our annual Steak BBQ which is free to all volunteers and a minimal cost of $10 for all others. Please indicate on your registration how many steak dinners you will require.

The NASCC will again be holding a classroom session for new drivers to be able to qualify for an endurance race single event license for $20. For drivers who already have qualified for an endurance race license in June they will only need to pay $20 for their single event license for September.

On Sunday we will trial our new sprint type format that will not have qualifying and that allows more on track racing and allow us to still run a GT Race format which will also be used in place of the usual King of the Road race. We are considering if ‘King of the Road’ points will be earned during the GT Race.

Triple K Autobody Endurance Race supplemental regulations can be found at: http://nascc.ab.ca/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/NASCC-Endurance-Racing-Sup-Regs.pdf

To registering your Team for either the 3.5 hour or 9 hour Triple K Autobody Endurance races on Saturday please use this link: http://msreg.com/TripleKEndurance

To registering for the Triple K Autobody Season Finale and GT Race on Sunday please use this link: http://msreg.com/TripleKSF

If you are a Volunteer please register for our September race weekend at: http://msreg.com/Sept-19-TW-Reg

Once the Triple K Autobody September event is over please mark your calendars for these other important dates:

October 3rd – NASCC Club Meeting/Ice Race Meeting. Ice Racing is being planned for the winter already and if you want rule or other changes for the upcoming Ice Racing season this is the meeting to attend!

October 19th – WCMA Annual General Meeting and Awards Dinner to be held in Leduc.

November 20th – NASCC Annual General Meeting with election of Board members.

The NASCC has already set tentative Ice Racing dates for 2020:

January 10 & 11 – Ice Race and Winter Driving School

January 12 – Race 1

January 25 & 26 – Race 2 & 3

February 8 & 9 – Race 4 & 5
