Interview with Murray Kiedell of the Alberta Fairgrounds T-Racers. Model -T races Saturday July 1 Canada 150 at Dinosaur Downs Speedway in Drumheller Alberta

Velocity: You are with a group of T-Racers. Model -T race at the Canada 150 Celebration Weekend July 1 at Dinosaur Downs Speedway in Drumheller Alberta.

Murray Kiedell of the Alberta Fairgrounds T-Racers: Model Ts starting racing in Calgary September 15 1941, they raced for 10 years. They raced though-out Alberta, because it caught on quite rapidly. The original race was to raise money for orphaned British kids because of the war. Our service guys came back from England & seen the need & got together with the Lions Club of Calgary to
have the 1st race September 15th 1941.

Velocity: So they raced from 1941 to 1951.

Murray of the Alberta Fairgrounds T-Racers: In 1951 the stock cars & the faster cars came in, the Model Ts were a lot slower & were replaced quickly.

Velocity: A lot of these cars look original.

Murray of the Alberta Fairgrounds T-Racers: There is the Peter Anderson car over here is one of the original cars, belongs to the Rasmussen family out Standard. He has been racing it for the family,it is a stock car, they took the motor apart, fixed it up & still using as many original parts as possible. Nothing new just refurbished & back together to keep it as stock as it was last raced in
1951.

Velocity: How many cars will you have to run.

Murray of the Alberta Fairgrounds T-Racers: 7 Cars out today & one from Adrawson. Car 37 was driven down from Edmonton, the Reynolds brothers used to drive from Wetaskiwin to race back in the day. After the race Stan Reynolds would just drive back as trailers were not popular in 1941-1951 as they are today. Most guys would just drive the cars to the track for a race & back home.
