Dinosaur Downs Speedway Sept. 8 & 9, 2018

Dinosaur Downs Speedway had an action packed weekend Sept. 8 and 9. Over fifty racers in four classes attended including: IMCA Modifieds, A-1 Auto Body Outlaw Legends, Hobby Stocks and mini claimers.

The IMCA Modifieds annual Raptor Run brought out 16 cars competing hard for the points towards the championship and the coveted laser cut raptor trophies for highest scores for the weekend.

A special event for the IMCA Modifieds was a presentation for Dennis Wurst of Grand Prairie who retired from racing after the weekend at Drumheller.Dennis started racing in 1980 when he won a mechanics race. He bought his own stock car in1982 and won Rookie of The Year . In 1993 he moved to the Modifieds and raced across western Canada, winning several Track Championships.

Dennis won the IMCA Sport Mod Championshipin 2016. This year he is the Taylor Speedway Track Champion. Dennis had to complete his racing career on Saturday when he was involved in a multi-car crash. The weekend was also attended by wife Willie and their family.

The Hobby stocks put together a weekend cash prize package for each day thanks to sponsors Lurch’s Winchin’ and Just Smoki’n Eavestrough of Medicine Hat, bringing out a dozen competitors.

The mini claimer division continues to grow with an amazing 16 cars in a class just started this year at Dinosaur Downs.

The A-1 Autoboby Outlaw Legends made their final, always entertaining and competitive appearance this year with 9 cars.

The near end of the season competitiveness kept the safety crew busy throughout the weekend.

Thunder Over The Valley- The Season Finale – Sept. 29 &30 wraps up the season when Modified and Hobby divisions will have a track champion named.

As a special bonus for spectators, cold weather cancelled our demolition derby and it will be moved to Saturday.
