Car 53 Tachophobic Racing won the Inaugural ChumpCar Canada 24 hour Oil Slick at Castrol Raceway August 1 & 2. Tachophobic Racing completed 795 laps & had the Best lap time of the race with 01:33.681 in lap 51 with a Top speed of 103.756 km/h. 2nd place Car 40 Chumpytrey, completed 790 laps. 3rd Place Car 47 Team Docspeed completed 776 laps.

4th Place Car 120 Rusty Igloo Racing completed 745 laps, followed by 5th place Car 41 Chumpydos who completed 742 laps. 6th Place Car 3 Team RedSuns completed 739 laps, followed by 7th place Car 411 Oil Burners Rx7 who completed 411 laps. 8th Place Car 24 Second Chance Racing who completed 735 laps, followed by 9th Place Car 142 Sundance Mazda who completed 734 laps. Lastly in the Top 10 was Car 20 Bandit Racing V2, in 10th place with 726 completed.

2 Hours into race

24 cars started the race, some cars having issues, running 21 – 22 cars. The Car 53 was the leader on lap 101. Car 58 was 2nd place with 100 laps, Car 67 was 3rd place also at 100 laps, 4th place was Car 19 at 98 laps, and Car 40 was 5th place also at 98 laps. The 1st caution came under the 2-hour mark for Car 60 Team Slovo lost a tire.

Interview with Car 86 The Red Mist Team, Driver: Jed Harrison

Velocity: ‘So have you done any ChumpCar races before.”

Jed Harrison: “I have raced in other ChumpCar events & 1 Lemons race.”

Velocity: “So I would think an end result of this race is you get more racers for the Northern Alberta Sports Car Club (NASCC).”

Jed Harrison: “Certainly our hope, we had 100 drivers in the drivers meeting or maybe a few more. I think we have 70 registered WCMA drivers, so this is an extra 25-30 racers not racing with us. After they run this track they might have a more of inclination to race with us. We have the ITJ class for people that want to run there ChumpCar qualified cars; with small changes some other cars will fit into other WCMA classes. So there is room for them & we would like to have them.”

Velocity: “This looks like too much fun not to be doing this.”

Jed Harrison: “It is a blast, a full day of a bunch of guys working together as a team, solving problems.”

Velocity: “So you are in Car 86 RX7, are you running 3 or 4 drivers?

Jed Harrison: “We are running 4 drivers & currently 4 1/2 hours into the race, 3rd in class & 12th overall.”

6 – 9 Hours into race

One of the cautions was for Car 1 Neon, steering column broke coming into corner 9. Dean Chorzempa stated “it was actually the best place for it to happen too!” The marshals could tell which car it was because of the green neon lights.

22 Hours into the race

Interview with Sal Sanfillipo Executive Director ChumpCar Canada

Velocity: “So how are things going?”

Sal Sanfillipo: “21 Cars still are racing out of 24 cars that started the race.

The last place Car 43 has been in & out the pits so many times, but who cares they are still out there. Looks like they finally got their gremlins, they had over heating issues, last night they pulled their heads off & found a machine shop to machine them. They ended up coming back to the track at midnight to put their car back together. The machine shop was actually owned by the Car 120.

Plus car 120 Sean’s ice car donated a spindle to keep the car 19 back on the track.”

“Then we have Car 99: Basically this is their 24 hours, they blew a motor, and they went on www.kijiji.ca and found a couple of motors which they ended up buying 1. They installed that motor then the tranny blew, so they replaced the tranny they had. We are not finished, the ECU fried, kept the injectors open, hydro locked the engine, so now they had to remove all the fuel that got injected into the engine. Once they got that done they blew a power steering hose and they also blew a brake line. You know what, they are out there now making laps, they are all fixed up & doing it. Every time I go by them, they are happy, happy, happy. They are NOT pissed off because they had so many problems. They are so happy that they are racing.”

If you are in Alberta you could build a car that you could race in ChumpCar Canada and the Northern Alberta Sports Car Club (NASCC) in ITJ Class, plus ice race it in the winter.
