The Inaugural Leduc Alberta 1000 – Biggest Road Race in Western Canada since the last Edmonton Indy

The Northern Alberta Sports Car Club (NASCC) is hosting the Inaugural Leduc, Alberta 1000 July 25 and 26 2014. The LA1K, presented by the VLT Operators of Leduc and Nisku, is a Multi Class Sportscar 1000 km endurance on the new road course at Castrol Raceway in Nisku Alberta.

Spectators:
Race action starts Saturday July 26 at 9:00 A.M. for $20 that would be worth every penny. With a 1000 km race get ready to see an action packed race with many different cars & horse power, fight for the position through out the track. Some cars might be fast on the straights but there are some tough corners that equalize a better handling car over big horse power. This is your chance to see some of the best driving talent in Western Canada and the USA up close and personal.

Having only 5 people over the wall per team in the pits, this is no F1 race, so fans get an unprecedented view of a busy live pit stop action! For the family the event will include a trade-show, media leader board, and other fun events. Grandstand seating will be available around the track as well.

Founded in 1957 NASCC has a long history in Motorsports and is the premiere racing club for Road & Ice Racing in Northern Alberta. Western Canada Motorsport Association (WCMA) was formed in 1991 and has been delegated authority for amateur motorsports in Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba by ASN Canada FIA. WCMA is affiliated to ASN Canada FIA. WCMA website: http://www.wcma.ca/new/ The 2.7km FIA approved road race track at Castrol raceway is very fast with a lot of technical parts to make it a challenge for all drivers & teams to complete a race like this.

Racers:
$10,000 in cash up for grabs open to any WCMA/FIA legal race cars and WCMA/FIA licenced drivers. Tires & Mods are open with minimum of 3 drivers for per team & maximum 2 hours per session, minimum fuel stop duration 5 minutes.

The race ends at 1000 km which is expected to take 10 – 12 hours. Friday July 25th test day $100 per driver test day is open to all WCMA legal race cars including cars not in the race car will be classed by the organizer into 3 or 4 classes based on performance and weight. Race starts Saturday July 26 at 9:00 A.M. If you have a WCMA legal race car or a WCMA legal driver contact NASCC at http://nascc.ab.ca/contact/ For the WCMA approved LA1K Supplemental Regulations at http://nascc.ab.ca/racing/forms-and-downloads/

Sponsors:
The VLT Operators of Leduc and Nisku were formed in 1997 and to date has contributed in excess of $700,000 back to the community supporting the development of major non-profit capital projects, and numerous community organizations. Spokesperson Perry Batke says, “We consider Castrol Raceway as one of our community’s most important
family entertainment facilities. We are proud to provide sponsorship support to the NASCC in their development of the LA1K and believe this race will become one of the
feature motorsport racing events in Western Canada. The LA1K has all of the ingredients of becoming a signature event creating economic benefits to the City and County of Leduc”.

Volunteers
There are many different ways to watch this road race. The 1 way is to be in the car racing, the 2nd best to watch a road race is to become a track-side marshal/corner worker. Road course marshals are race personnel that surround the road course track at specified stations that communicate to drivers with flags and each other on radios. These are a committed group of volunteers that with training and experience, can become qualified to work the big professional races like Indycar & Formula 1.

Morning meeting times Friday July 25 & Saturday 26 8:00 A.M.

Require many marshals to allow for rotations and breaks, so pass the word out around if you have any friends or family that may be able to help out.

If you are a new marshal you would be paired up with an experienced marshal.

If you are an experienced marshal this will be a great event to say you worked the Inaugural Leduc, Alberta 1000k. If I can get the time off work I will be there on a corner!

This event might be televised, so all marshals are expected to wear full whites. If you have a new marshal coming out, we will allow jeans with white or light colored tops. (No flag colours)

You will be on the track for a minimum of 10 hours as this is an endurance race & bring layers of clothes as this is road racing which runs rain or shine.

So for the best seat in the house consider being a track-side marshal, if you are an experienced marshal or brand new contact Chief Course Marshal Tracey McEwing: traceymcewing@shaw.ca

In the case that being track-side is not for you it takes many people to put an event like this on. For more information go to http://nascc.ab.ca/contact/

When ever I do an article before a race I always make my own picks on who could win, but not in this case this is an endurance race & anything can happen. If you’re in the area this event would be worth checking out.
