A brief history of Flat Track motorcycles:
Early Flat Track motorcycles were typically stock bikes with some minor modifications. The history of dedicated flat track racing machines followed the production of stock motorcycles and their popularity with the buying public. From the early 1900’s Harley Davidson, Indian, Henderson and Excelsior all sponsored production racing on dirt tracks across North America. As the British influence grew Triumph, BSA and Norton became popular on the circuits with the skilled tuners and riders of the day in demand to elevate the performance on Sunday to sell bikes on Monday. Then came the Japanese brands in the sixties, the product names of Yamaha, Kawasaki, Suzuki and Honda came to the fore front of the flat track racing scene.

Castrol Raceway, Canada’s Premier Motorsports Complex, annually hosts over 200 races including the nationally recognized events: IHRA MOPAR Rocky Mountain Nitro Jam Nationals, Race of Champions: Legends of Nascar, World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series and Monster Jam. In addition to the ¼ mile IHRA Sanctioned Drag Strip, 3/8 mile Clay Oval Track and 10 acre Pro Motocross Track, a brand new 2.7 km FIA sanctioned Paved Road Course opened at the Raceway in 2013.
