The Northern Alberta Sports Car Club (NASCC) will host the Leduc, Alberta 1000. The LA1K, presented by the VLT Operators of Leduc and Nisku is a 1000 km non-stop auto race taking place July 25 and 26 on the new road course at Castrol Raceway.
The best driving talent in Western Canada and the USA will converge on the Leduc and Nisku region to compete for over $10,000 in cash and awards. The 2.7km FIA approved road race circuit at Castrol raceway will push drivers and crew to the max as they race to be the first team to complete the challenge.
The event will include a trade-show, media leader board, and other fun events for the whole family. The event will challenge competitors and entertain the thousands of spectators looking for spectacular race action. Spectator access to the event will be unprecedented as fans will be able to get within feet of live pit stop action! Grandstand seating will be available around the track as well.
The VLT Operators of Leduc and Nisku were formed in 1997 and to date has contributed in excess of $700,000 back to the community supporting the development of major non-profit capital projects, and numerous community organizations. Spokesperson Perry Batke says, “We consider Castrol Raceway as one of our community’s most important family entertainment facilities. We are proud to provide sponsorship support to the NASCC in their development of the LA1K and believe this race will become one of the feature motorsport racing events in Western Canada. The LA1K has all of the ingredients of becoming a signature event creating economic benefits to the City and County of Leduc”.
NASCC was founded in 1957 and organized its first sports car race August 16, 1958 at the Edmonton International Airport.
The NASCC has always been affiliated with the Geneva based FIA. Therefore, NASCC members have always enjoyed connection to international motorsports. NASCC motorsports are family activities. Children and even grandchildren of NASCC members are now active in the club.
Many NASCC members have gone on to play roles in prominent international motorsports, having learned to prepare and drive cars and organize events in the competitive yet supportive environment of the NASCC. The club also supports the community – for example, it has been involved with CHED’s Santa’s Anonymous for over 30 years.
