It was an exciting weekend of oval racing at the Medicine Hat Speedway for the Just Smok’n Eavestrough Double Header Weekend. There was racing Saturday July 4 & Sunday July 5 with 5 classes: Baby Grands, Elite Street Stock, Evolution Cupcars, Hobby Stock & Renegade Trucks. Races on Saturday were rained out after the heat races before the main races were about to start, on Sunday the rain held off. Sunday was action packed
racing which included Cautions in almost all the days races & including a big roll over. Medicine Hat Speedway is celebrating 31 Years of Oval Racing with more years to come.

2015 July 19 Interview with Dianne Longer long time Medicine Hat Speedway volunteer
Velocity: “So Dianne, you have been volunteering here for 12 years?”
Dianne: “Yes right here volunteering.” (Corner 1 volunteer’s by the spectator & pit entrance outside of corner)
Velocity: “Your sons raced here?”
Dianne: “Yes, my oldest son raced Minis & my youngest son raced Street Stocks.”
Velocity: “So is that the class running right now.”
Dianne: “Actually these are faster than the cars he was driving, a lot of these cars were street stock but have moved up to the Elite Street Stock.”
Velocity: “So is that more horse power & modifications?
Dianne: “Yes, I do not know much about them but they are fast.”
Velocity: “I always like to promote the best way to watch a race is to be in the car the 2nd best way is to volunteer.”
Dianne: “Right & I am too chicken to get in a race car, as I am too clostafobic. My son tried to get me in a race car; I couldn’t even get the helmet on.”
Velocity: “So you must have seen some great racing over the years?
Dianne: “Oh yes & there has been lots of changes over the years. I used to go to the old track, and I was not a volunteer over there. I have just been a volunteer since we moved here.
Velocity: “I heard they just extended the lease here, its great to see you have racing here with a future & you have both tracks here.”
Dianne: “Yes we are getting new pavement next year too. Yes, it should be really good next year, but we have a good fan base.”
