It was a full day at Medicine Hat Speedway, 1st was practice followed by an autograph session for the fans, then on to 2 Heat races per class. Lastly was some great racing in the mains for the trophies. It was a fun day for the fans young & old with Hobby Stocks, Renegade Trucks, Elite Street Stocks & Baby Grands. I have to thank Rick Jondreau & all his people at Medicine Hat Speedway for the great day. I got to shoot from corner 2 in the heats & from the starter stand in the mains. If you find yourself in the pits make sure you try one of Mikès Bacon Cheese Burgers the best track burger I have had.

Interview with Medicine Hat Speedway Elite Street Stock Driver Car 6 & Club President Rick Jondreau.
Velocity: The classes we had today were Hobby Stocks, Renegade Trucks, Elite Street Stocks & Baby Grands Sponsored by Chris’s Handyman & Yard Services. So we had an exciting day of oval racing, every class had cautions except the Renegade Trucks, so I think I am a Caution magnet for you guys. Last race weekend I think you said you had 1 caution or none.
Rick Jondreau: Yes I think we had 1 or maybe 2 with the Hobby Stock & I do not think the other classes had any.
Velocity: I saw some great racing, in particular the Hobby Stock Main was a 4 car battle for the until closer to the end, once Car 9 Larry Hirch got in front he was gone.
Rick Jondreau: Away he goes.
Velocity: I saw you yourself were racing Car 66 Mitch Stovka, it was an exciting race, he did come up through the race, is he the points leader.
Rick Jondreau: I do not think he is the points leader, going into the night the # 7 was the points leader. It was really funny, racing is a strange sport. Late in the race we get a caution, I am thinking 66 is going to try me on the outside but I think I can hold him off. All of sudden he drives into the corner, I thinking he was going to do what the 99 did, push up the track & I would just drive away. Then it sets and I hear him get back on the throttle, all I could say sitting in the car was nice move. Obviously I did not want to get passed, but what an awesome move on his part to get the lead.
Velocity: Coming from Race City you had a high banked oval, so you could make the 2nd groove work & win from the 2nd groove. Here you lower bank in the corners so it makes it tough to pass in the corners & make it stick.
Rick Jondreau: This is like a little bow ring, we always say if you can get fast here, you can do well anywhere. Once you develop skill for racing out here on this flat track & you get on a high bank, you can just drive it in until it starts to move, then catch it, it is just so forgiving. We do well on the high banks like Hythe when we raced there, Will 77 won the championship last year. I have never finished outside of the Top 3 up there & I broke the track record each time I went up there. When you race on a flat track & then get to go to a high banked oval it is like a paid holiday. Calgary was my favorite track, it was funny when you run the high line coming off turn 2 & keep your foot in it, those cement blocks jump at you. When I broke the track record I thought I was going to hit those cement blocks, the track drops off & pitches your whole car to the right, insanely fun.
Velocity: Sportsmanship is here, you were telling me about 2 competitors running in the same class, 77 blew up in practice & 14 lent him an engine.
Rick Jondreau: Yes it was # 77 Will Voth & # 14 Ross Statham, Ross lent him the engine to race & then they were racing each other. So Will is going home taking that motor out & putting his back in so Ross will have his engine back for next weekend.
Velocity: In Calgary there were a lot Hobby Stock Cars if they wanted to race here is there lots of medications.
Rick Jondreau: They can come out here & race twice before they have to meet our modifications.
Velocity: Next weekend you have your big double header weekend, what classes do you have running.
Rick Jondreau: That is a big show we will have Renegade Trucks, Elite Street Stocks, Hobby Stock, IMAC Modifieds & Evolution Mini Cups. Saturday night regular time & Sunday we go green flag at 2:00 P.M. gates open at 1:00 P.M.

What’s this weekend all about you ask?
First and foremost, this two-day show is all about the fans. The Medicine Hat Speedway will be giving away lots of gifts on both days to show our appreciation for your fan support Second, lots of racing action on both Saturday & Sunday. This weekend has the Elite Street Stocks, Renegade Trucks, Hobby Stocks, Evolution Mini Cup Cars and we have the IMCA Modifieds back in action.
Did we mention this weekend is all about the fans? Well this year the speedway is going to give the first 300 race fans through the gate a free ticket for the Sunday show!!
Saturday night the gates open at 5:00, autograph at 5:45 and green flag racing at 6:30
Sunday the gates open at 1:00 and we go green flag racing at 2:00
