Jeff Gordon wins the 5-Hour Energy 400 Benefiting Special at Kansas Speedway

Car 24 Jeff Gordon Axalta Coatings Chevrolet won the 4th Annual 5-hour ENERGY 400 Benefiting Special Operations Warrior Foundation, for his 89th win in the Sprint Cup Series. This is his first win and eighth top 10 finish in 2014, which makes Gordon the 9th driver to win in the Sprint Cup Series in 11 races.

It was a close race as Gordon pitted 1 lap before leader Kevin Harvick and was able to hold off for the win by 2 car lengths. Jeff Gordon said to his team “how does that feel boys a weight has been lifted off our shoulders” & he now leads the point standings by 15 points over Matt Kenseth.

2nd place Car 4 Kevin Harvick Jimmy John’s Chevrolet posted his eighth top-10 finish in 17 races at Kansas Speedway. It is his fifth top-10 finish in 2014. 3rd place Car 5 Kasey Kahne FarmersInsurance/Thankamillionteachers.com Chev posted his seventh top 10 finish in 14 races at Kansas Speedway followed by Car 22 Joey Logano AAA Insurance Ford in 4th place. 5th place Car 88 Dale Earnhardt Jr. National Guard Chevrolet followed by Car 99 Carl Edwards Aflac Ford 6th place. 7th place Car 10 Danica Patrick GoDaddy Chevrolet posted her best career finish in a Sprint Cup Series race. 8th place Car 43 Aric Almirola Farmland Ford followed by Car 48 Jimmie Johnson Lowe’s Chevrolet in 8th place. Finishing off the top 10 was Car 20 Matt Kenseth Dollar General Toyota in 10th place. Kyle Larson (12th) was the highest finishing rookie.

Car 4 Kevin Harvick Jimmy John’s Chevrolet leads the pack from the start and holds the lead until lap 41.

The race had 25 lead changes between 10 leaders & had 8 cautions for 47 laps. The 1st caution came out on lap 48 for Car 15 Clint Bowyer Cherry 5 hour Energy Special Ops Warrior Foundation Toyota had an amazing spin on the backstretch. He was able to regain control thanks to the 70ft wide backstretch and did not collect any other cars. 2nd caution came out on lap 61 for crash in Turn 4 involving Car 34 David Ragan Taco Bell Ford, Car 83 Ryan Truex Burger King Toyota, Car 7 Michael Annett Accell Construction Chevroet & Car 40 Landon Cassill Carsforsale.com Chevrolet. 3rd caution came out on lap 72 for Car 11 Denny Hamlin FedEx Freight
