Jeff Gordon wins NASCAR Sprint Series Crown Royal Presents The John Wayne Walding 400 at The Brickyard

Coming out of 2nd place on the front row, Car 24 Jeff Gordon Axalta Chevrolet, won the 21st Annual Crown Royal presents The John Wayne Walding 400, at The Brickyard, Powered by BigMachineRecords.com – his 90th win in 745 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series races. With the win, Jeff Gordon clinched a spot in the 2014 Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup, assuming he attempts to qualify for the remaining six races of the season. This is his second win and 14th top-10 finish in 2014 and his 5th win and 17th Top-10 finish in 21 races at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. He leads the point standings by 24 points over Dale Earnhardt Jr.

2nd Place Car 18 Kyle Busch Snickers Toyota started in 12th place. Kyle Busch posted his 8th Top 10 finish in ten races at Indianapolis Motor Speedway & is his 9th Top 10 finish in 2014. 3rd Place Car 11 Denny Hamlin FedEx Express Toyota started in 27th place, posted his 4th Top 10 finish in nine races at Indianapolis Motor Speedway followed by 4th place Car 20 Matt Kenseth Dollar General Toyota started in 13th place that makes 3 team mates in a row from 2nd place to 4th place.

The key to Jeff’s win had to be having a good restart with 6 laps to go. He was able to beat Kyle Busch and team mates with a Margin of Victory of 2.325 Seconds. He said on radio to his team “God! I finally had the restart of my life.” The whole Hendrick Motorsports was happy with the win. Crew Chief Alan Gustafson always wanted win there and Rick Hendrick said, ” I told him this morning, this is your day”. Hendrick also said “For him to break that tie (team mate Johnson), it’s pretty special. I remember the first one (1994) and how good it felt`.

Gordon`s Hendrick Motorsports team mate Car 5 Kasey Kahne Time Warner Cable Chevrolet lead the most laps in the race, I would think he will still be a contender to get a win in the last 6 races to make the Chase for the Cup.
