A big surprise at driver introductions was Dinosaur Downs Speedway honoured I.M.C.A. Modifieds driver Car 9 Roger Bonneville. This was for his 50 years of continuous racing. The first 25 years in claimers, street stocks and hobby stocks and the past 25 years in I.M.C.A. Modifieds. Roger Bonneville appeared on CTV Calgary’s Athlete of the Week. (There is a link on the Dinosaur Downs Speedway Facebook page).
I had the chance to talk to Roger in the pits after the races with the other fans. Talk about history he was racing back in the Circle 8 days that my father took me to as a child. He tells a funny story on how he took his wife’s Ford Mustang & converted into a race car. He will tell you it happened but he did get his wife a new car. He also raced at Stampede Speedway, then at Race City & ran 2 cars when the Rocky Mountain Raceway was running just outside of High River. We also talked about other people in racing like Ben Doctor, Pierre Guyon & Art Mckenzie, it is a small world in the racing world.
