Saturday & Sunday June 28 & 29 were hot days with 30c & track temperature was 52.5c, which made it hot for drivers & volunteers. It was so hot it melted the tires on the pace car.

Interview with Mr Motorsport Mike Elhard.
Velocity: “How was car count for the weekend?”
Mike Elhard: “Mid 40s & some Vintage cars for the weekend.”
Velocity: “How was the King of the Road on Saturday with the heat?” (50 Minute race)
Mike Elhard: “A lot of the drivers that were in the King of the Road were warn out when they got out of the car.”
Velocity: “Is there a race before the big 24 Hour Chump Car race?
Mike Elhard: “Yes there is the week before the Chump Car race, It is a Friday, Saturday event. Friday evening & Saturday all day.”
Velocity: “So that will be good just before the big 24 Hour Chump Car race.”
Mike Elhard: “We have confirmation that Chumpcar has enough entry’s & is going ahead with 24 Hour Chump Car race.”
Velocity: “So how was the weekend for racing?”
Mike Elhard: “Saturday was clean & Sunday there were a few incidents, not a lot of crashes. We raced, we had fun & it was hot. The people who had cool shirts were happy.”
Velocity: “Yes Shawn Bishop was saying he had these Cool Shirts available how do they work?
Mike Elhard: “You mount like a Coleman cooler to where your passenger seat would be, you run 12 volts to it, it has pump inside. Then it has 2 hoses run out to a check valve, they plug into a shirt that you wear. It is just like a radiator it circulates, you fill the cooler up with ice & water. This then puts ice-cold water in your driving suit. In a 40 minute drive it will melt an entire bag of ice inside your driving suit but you will be dry.

Cool Shirts:
Stephanie Barnes Darcy, from my experience they work very well. I recommend the rheostatic control for maximum effectiveness. Use blocks of ice, rather than cubes. One block lasts me most of the day. We keep the blocks in a 12 volt electric cooler, then drop one in the cool suit unit before gridding, and top it up with water and a cap full of the anti-mildew fluid. I turn the pump on as necessary, and adjust the temperature as needed on the track. It’s easy and incredibly effective. I would not race without it.

The third NASCC Road Race will be held at Castrol Raceway on Friday July 24 & Saturday July 25. Please note that Friday July 24 is an evening event with a late afternoon start time. The marshal meeting will start at 4:15pm on Friday the 24th, and at 8:00am on Saturday July 25th. If you know that you will be attending, please let me know ASAP if possible by email so NASCC can proceed with time schedules and planning. If you are not able to attend Friday at the start time, but are able to arrive a bit later, please let me know an approximate time.
With training & experience in regional events you can get you qualified to work National & International events.
Remember watching racing can fun but being part of the race is even better. So if you are not racing come-out and volunteer the second best way to watch a race, the best way is to be in the.
