Macs has been sponsoring Legends for 25 Years, I remember this race when it was at Race City called the Firecraker 50. It brought back lots of memories, like Race City it had a good car count & lots of fans. The format of the race was 50 laps that caution laps counted & 25 laps they did not. Wayne Miller did the honour of starting the race in the starters stand. There was lots of action with cautions & green-white-checkers at the end of the race. Like NASCAR the pole sitter gets an option to go inside or outside for the start, the difference here is this choice goes down the line. The leader is 1st to choose then going back each driver back can decide whether to stay on inside or outside. This is done with 2 laps to go & a driver could move up lots of positions on the outside.

Interview with Legends Froster 50 Winner Driver Macs Car 17 Ira Laughy

Velocity: I am here at EIR with Legends Froster 50 Winner Driver Car 17 Ira Laughy Congratulations on your win. I noticed, you started a little in the back but once you took the lead you put on a show. It was a great race to watch but I noticed at almost every caution with the choose you had a different dance partner every re-start.

Ira Laughy: It was like a revolving door, all of those guys are good, they are always doing something different & each guy is different. There was a lot of re-starts, it was a challenge on all of them & trying to get a gap, seeing who was there & what they were going to do. The guys behind me ran clean all night, so I did not have to worry about getting knocked through the corner or anything like that. Overall it was good; the car was excellent which helped. Getting near the front early on also helped because of the all the cautions seemed to be at the end. Being on pole with the choose helped allot, as I did not have to worry about any of the other drivers. It was good to control it from the front a little bit; I wouldn’t want to be back there choosing with those guys. I am glad to have had the front when I did & was able to keep it up there.

Velocity: I remember from my old home track was Race City & you could make the outside groove work, here it is pretty tough.

Ira Laughy: Very Tough! It is the long way around; this is a real little bow ring. What you really have to do is set guys up & get up underneath them here, as you just can’t drive on the outside of them. Even Saskatoon and Hythe are places, you can maybe run the second groove, and here you have to make the outside work. Passing guys on the bottom; you can get around a little bit. If you have two equally fast cars, you are not going to drive around the outside of a guy, you are going to have to work them & try to get your nose underneath them. I thought everyone ran a pretty clean race; the start was a little chaotic, and there was a little bit of banging & stuff going on. From my perspective everyone ran pretty clean, so I was happy.

Velocity: Here at Edmonton International Raceway nice smooth surface, how do you guys like this track.

Ira Laughy: Since Ron & Loretta repaved this place, I love it and it’s awesome and a pleasure to race here. It is great for Legend Cars, as it is a smaller track but it is a real drivers track. It is tough to be fast, as you have to get your car working right, it will wear you out, this is a tough little place. They have done a beautiful job with the stands, the paint, the asphalt, and the parking.

Velocity: The format for the race was 50 laps then a competition yellow before the final 25 laps & they put lapped cars to the back.

Ira Laughy: They put all the lapped cars to the back gave the leaders a good shoot-out at the front. It was a shoot-out, it was a bit of bare knuckle fighting for a bit, and I could see it going on behind me. I tried to get away from it as much as I possibly could.

Velocity: Thanks for your time.

Ira Laughy: Thanks for the coverage.
