It would have been another Penske front row again if it wasn’t Car 11 Denny Hamlin FedEx Freight Toyota & Car 20 Matt Kenseth Home Depot / Husky Record qualifying runs. Car 11 Denny Hamlin FedEx Freight Toyota Record qualifying run with a time of 14.761 & speed of 129.991 mph gave him the new track record & Coors Light Pole Winner for the Food City 500 Bristol Motor Speedway.
In 2 laps Denny Hamlin of the 2nd session of knock out qualifying won his 18th pole of his career. Second place Car 2 Brad Keselowski Miller Lite Ford a time of 14.764 & speed of 129.965 mph was able to keep at least one Team Penske on the front row. Third place was Hamlin’s team mate Car 20 Matt Kenseth Home Depot / Husky Toyota with a time of 14.866 & speed 29.073.

36th place Car 10 Danica Patrick GoDaddy – Get Found Chevrolet time of 15.153 & speed of 126.628, was the last car to qualify on time.
Qualifying went quite well with NASCAR’s decision week to permit cool-down boxes on pit road, eliminating the need for cars to cruise the lower apron of the track at slow speeds in an attempt to cool their engines. Drivers were commending NASCAR for making the changes for safety.
