Enthusiastic fans lined up at the gate to snap up the 200 tickets allowed by A.H.S. at Dinosaur Downs Speedway. A big group of equally happy racers, pit crews and volunteers could not wait to get the show started.
A thunder storm that rolled in just as the races were slated to start did not dampen the spirit. The track was dried (a spectacle in it’s self) and the spectators hung in for a 7:30 start. Unfortunately the Alberta Fairgrounds T-Racers were unable to run until Sunday. The I.M.C.A. Modifieds were competing for the weekend Raptor Run prize of unique raptor trophys and put on an exciting show. The hobby stocks came out with ten cars and lots of action. The mini claimer class, under the leadership of the Shilson family, continues to grow. Arriving with an impressive 25 cars and many
rookie racers. The Alberta Fairground T-Racers joined in on Sunday for the fifth continuous year. Racer Petere Ab. The Alberta Fairgrounds T-Racers joined in on Sunday for the fifth continuous year. Peter Anderson raced the 1914 car which was a race car in the 1940’s. Other cars were 1920’s vintage, in rag tag to beautifully restored form. The weekend was a great success and the fans, racers, volunteers and safety crews made it all happen and can not be thanked enough. Our announcers Stu McColl (Sat.) and Jason Blanke (Sunday) really added to the show.
Next Race: Dinosaur Downs brings the Summer Heat Weekend on August 15 & 16. The team are also working on a Flat Track Motorcycle race and demolition derby, as well as more car races.
