Starting from 11th place Car 11 Denny Hamlin FedEx Express Toyota won the 2016 Daytona 500, his 27th win in 363 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series races. This is Denny Hamlin’s 1st win & 1st Top 10 finish in 2016 & 1st win & 7th Top 10 finish in 21 races at Daytona International Speedway. 2nd Place Car 78 Martin Truex Jr. Bass Pro Shops/Tracker Boats Toyota, started from 28th place posted his 3rd Top 10 finish in 22 races at Daytona International Speedway. It is Martin Truex Jr.’s 1st Top 10 finish in 2016. 3rd Place Car 18 Kyle Busch M&M’s 75 Toyota, started from 4th place posted his 7th Top 10 finish in 22 races at Daytona International Speedway.

Today’s Margin of Victory is the closest in Daytona 500 history at 0.010 second. Denny Hamlin becomes the 5th driver in series history to win the Sprint Unlimited and the Daytona 500 in the same season joining Bobby Allison (1982), Bill Elliott (1987), Dale Jarrett (1996, 2000) and Jeff Gordon (1997). Joe Gibbs Racing had 3 cars in the Top 5 & Toyota had 4 cars in the Top 5. This is the first Daytona 500 win for Toyota. Denny Hamlin leads the point standings by 5 points over Martin Truex Jr.
