Daniel Ricciardo/ Red Bull Racing-Renault Brings Mercedes Winning Streak to an End at the Canadian Grand Prix

Car 3 Daniel Ricciardo Red Bull Racing-Renault was able to do what no one else could do, beat Mercedes to the checker flag. With 2 laps to go Daniel Ricciardo passed Nico Rosberg for the lead of the race which wound up being the pass for his 1st career F-1 win.

2nd place Car 6 Nico Rosberg Mercedes was fighting to hold on the lead as long as he could to collect points and keep the lead in the drivers championship.

In 3rd place, Car 1 Sebastian Vettel Red Bull Racing-Renault followed by Car 22 Jenson Button McLaren-Mercedes in 4th place.

5th place went to Car 27 Nico Hulkenberg Force India-Mercedes.

In 6th place came Car 14 Fernando Alonso Ferrari.

7th place Car 77 Valtteri Bottas Williams-Mercedes, 8th place was Car 25 Jean-Eric Vergne STR-Renault, 9th place was Car 20 Kevin Magnussen McLaren-Mercedes.  And last place holder  in the points went to Car 7 Kimi Räikkönen Ferrari in 10th place.

This was the most exciting F-1 race of the 2014 season. It started off with both Mercedes cars leading the field in the start but Car 44 Lewis Hamilton Mercedes was sent on to the grass in the 2nd corner.

Then behind the leaders team mates, Car 4 Max Chilton Marussia-Ferrari and Car 17 Jules Bianchi Marussia-Ferrari came into contact with each other causing a safety car and taking each other out of the race. Max Chilton was penalized for the starting-lap crash with his teammate and will have a 3 grid penalty in the next Grand Prix as a result.

Both Mercedes seem to pull away from the rest of the as they battled each other until both cars reported loss of power allowing others teams to close in.

Hamilton retired with loss of power and brakes as his team mate Rosberg struggled to hold onto the lead until Daniel Ricciardo passed him with 2 laps to go.

For added excitement Car 19 Felipe Massa Williams-Mercedes went for a pass on Car 11 Sergio Perez Force India-Mercedes in turn 1, causing a caution/safety car and ending the race under yellow to give Ricciardo his 1st F-1 win.

Both drivers Massa and Perez walked away from the crash, but Sergio Perez was named at fault because he changed his line to lose 5 grid positions in the next race. 22 cars started the race and only 11 cars finished.

This was a great race to watch and is nice to know there will be many more to come. It was announced at Montreal’s Circuit Gilles Villeneuve will host the Canadian Grand Prix for years to come with a new agreement with F-1 for the next 10 years until 2024. Great race & great city if you have never been I suggest making the trip for the race I hope to go back myself.
