David Ragan, who qualified 13th, will also will go to a backup car after slapping the wall in final practice and will join Gordon on tail.

Jeff Gordon won the Coors Light Pole Award for the 18th Annual Kobalt 400 with a track qualifying record lap of 27.738 seconds, 194.679 mph. The previous record was set in 2014 by Joey Logano (27.939 sec/193.278 mph). This is his 79th pole in 764 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series races. Gordon’s pole total is 3rd on the all-time series poles list. This is his 2nd pole and 2nd Top 10 start in 2015. Gordon also won the pole for the Daytona 500. This is his first pole in 18 races at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. His previous best starting position at Las Vegas was second, twice (2003 and 2010).
Gordon has now won at least one pole at every track except Kentucky Speedway and Kansas Speedway. He has started four races at Kentucky and 18 races at Kansas.

Joey Logano 2nd place posted his 3rd top 10 start of 2015 and his 5th in 7 races at Las Vegas Motor Speedway . Kasey Kahne 3rd place posted his eighth top-10 start at Las Vegas Motor Speedway . It is his 2nd in three races this season.
