Car 48 Jimmie Johnson Lowe’s Patriotic Chevrolet Wins 2014 Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

Car 48 Jimmie Johnson Lowe’s Patriotic Chevrolet won the 55th Annual COCA-COLA 600; his 67th victory in 447 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series races. Johnson ranks eighth on the all-time series wins list. This is his first win and seventh top-10 finish in 2014. With this win, Johnson is virtually locked into the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup. Any race where Johnson does well in qualifying usually has a good result in the race, since he won the Coors Light Pole Award he was on pole.

2nd place Car 4 Kevin Harvick Budweiser Folds of Honor Chevrolet, was fast all race and made a great effort to win but  had difficulty losing positions in the pits. 3rd place Car 20 Matt Kenseth Home Depot Husky Toyota gave Jimmie Johnson a run for his money in the last restart including a move to block him but to no avail.

4th place was Car 99 Carl Edwards Fastenal Ford followed by Car 1 Jamie McMurray Cessna Chevrolet in 5th place, 6th place was Car 55 Brian Vickers Aaron’s Dream Machine Toyota followed by Car 24 Jeff Gordon Drive to End Hunger Chevrolet who gambled on 2 tires for position when the cars that past him at the last restart had 4 tires. 8th place was Car 27 Paul Menard Serta/Menards Chevrolet followed by Car 18 Kyle Busch M&M’s Toyota. Lastly in the top ten was Car 2 Brad Keselowski Miller Lite Ford in 10th place.

Car 41 Kurt Busch Haas Automation Made in America Chevrolet, finished in 6th place in the Indianapolis 500 and then started tall in the Coca-Cola 600. He was doing well but on lap 274 blew an engine.

Car 10 Danica Patrick GoDaddy Chevrolet Qualified 4th and was doing well but the car seemed to go away then on lap 219 her engine lost power from one cylinder. Then on lap 286 she blew the engine just like team mate Kurt Busch.

On the Green flag Johnson leads off the start of the Coca-Cola 600.  By lap 4 Car 10 Danica Patrick GoDaddy Chevrolet battles for second place with Car 2 Brad Keselowski Miller Lite Ford. By the end of the lap she takes the position. By Lap 5 Patrick is running .956 seconds behind Johnson.

On lap 12, Car 41 Kurt Busch Haas Automation Made in America Chevrolet is now up to 33rd place after already finishing in 6th place Indianapolis 500 race.

Lap 19, Car 24 Jeff Gordon, Drive to End Hunger Chevrolet who was racing with a bad back  (and missed practice due to back spasms) the day before, started 27th in the field. He moved his way up to 17th in just 19 laps.

On lap 45, Green flag pit stops start. By lap 50 Jimmie Johnson takes back the lead. Lap 76 Car 4 Kevin Harvick Budweiser Folds of Honor Chevrolet uses Car 3 Austin Dillon Cheerios Chevrolet to block Johnson off and take the lead.

Lap 96, Kevin Harvick pits making Jimmie Johnson until Johnson pit on the next lap handing the lead back to Harvick.

Lap 99, Car 3 Austin Dillon Cheerios Chevrolet has right side damage after getting loose in Turn 4 and making contact with the wall.

Lap 108 1st ‘Caution for Debris’ on the backstretch. On lap 114 Johnson and Harvick battle for the lead at the restart.

Lap 115, Kenseth, Bowyer and Gordon were all fighting for third. Lap 116 Kurt Busch is currently running 18th and lap 121 Patrick is the last car on the lead lap in 19th.

On Lap 124, the top five included: Harvick, Johnson, Bowyer, Gordon and Dale Jr.

Lap 148 ‘Caution’: Debris on the backstretch. On lap 151, Johnson wins the race out of pit road and by lap 154 Johnson leads off the restart.

Lap 164 ‘Caution’ when Car 38 David Gilliland Love’s Travel Stops Ford hits the wall and his car is sent smoking.

On lap 170 Car 2 Brad Keselowski Miller Lite Ford leads off the restart.

Lap 222 ‘Caution’ for Debris on the back straightaway.

Lap 226 Dale Jr., Vickers, McMurray and Stewart stayed out, Kurt Busch’s team penalized for having too many men penalty over the wall on pit road. Dale Jr. leads the field for the restart.

Lap 235 ‘Caution’ for a crash involving Ambrose, Cassill, Scott, Wise and Patrick.

Lap 274 ‘Caution’ due to Kurt Busch’s blown engine.

Lap 286 ‘Caution’ for Danica Patrick’s blown engine.

Lap 380 ‘Caution’ for Alex Bowman  who suffered some left side damage to the front of his car.

Lap 381 Carl Edwards, Joey Logano, Kevin Harvick and Brad Keselowski go to the pits.Jeff Gordon, Matt Kenseth and Jimmie Johnson stay out.

Lap 381 race off pit road Edwards, Kyle Busch, Menard, McMurray and Harvick while the top 4 stayed out.

Lap 384 Jeff Gordon leads the field into Turn 1 for the restart. Before the end of the lap Kenseth takes the outside line for the lead.

On lap 385 Harvick is on the move and is already battling for fifth on the backstretch.

Lap 386 Johnson passes Gordon on the inside for second. Lap Harvick is coming strong and passes by Gordon for third.

During Lap 390 Gordon falls back due to only taking two tires earlier.

Lap 392 Kenseth moves to block Johnson, then after some contact Johnson passes Kenseth on the inside.

Lap 398 Harvick closes on Kenseth for second place. ]

On lap 399 Jimmie Johnson takes the white flag and Harvick takes second from Kenseth.

Lap 400Jimmie Johnson takes the checkered flag and scores his first win of 2014.
