Car 44 Lewis Hamilton Mercedes Wins Italian Grand Prix – His 6th Win of 2014

September 7 Italian Grand Prix Monza Italy

Pole sitter Car 44 Lewis Hamilton Mercedes won The Italian Grand Prix for his 6th win & 10th win for Mercedes of 2014. 2nd Place Car 6 Nico Rosberg Mercedes, had the lead but overshot the course twice costing him the lead. 3rd Place Car 19 Felipe Massa Williams-Mercedes.

4th Place Car 77 Valtteri Bottas Williams-Mercedes followed by 5th Car 3 Daniel Ricciardo Red Bull Racing-Renault. 6th place Car 1 Sebastian Vettel Red Bull Racing-Renault followed by 7th place Car 11 Sergio Perez Force India-Mercedes. 8th Place Car 22 Jenson Button McLaren-Mercedes followed by 9th place Car 7 Kimi Räikkönen Ferrari.
Lastly in the Top 10 was Car 20 Kevin Magnussen McLaren-Mercedes in 10th place.

Car 6 Nico Rosberg Mercedes grabbed the lead from the start as Car 44 Lewis Hamilton Mercedes gets passed by 2 cars before the 1st corner. Lewis Hamilton then reports Engine Recovery System (ERS) problems in the early start. Hamilton gets his power back as he takes 3rd place. Car 4 Max Chilton Marussia-Ferrari hits the curbing, getting airborne and crashing, car was out & Chilton was winded. Nico Rosberg made a braking mistake heading into the first chicane and having to take the escape road. Using the slip stream Hamilton is able to pass for 2nd place. Hamilton is told by his team “Lewis the race is going to be at the end & try to save the tires”. Nico Rosberg made another braking mistake heading into the first chicane due increasing pressure from Lewis Hamilton. This time having to take the escape road cost Rosberg the lead giving it to Hamilton. Some exciting racing took place behind the Mercedes as Car 3 Daniel Ricciardo Red Bull Racing-Renault & Car 11 Sergio Perez Force India-Mercedes were fighting different cars for position. The race brought Hamilton closer to team mate with a 22 points gap.

The Mercedes controversy of their 2 drivers last race incident carried over into this race. When Lewis Hamilton was asked at if Nico Rosberg was his friend he said “Yes we have to be we are team mates”.

Notes: Kvyat dropped 10 grid spots for engine change. Ericsson started from pits for yellow flag infringement. Magnussen finished P7 – 5s added to race time for forcing driver off track. Gutierrez finished P19 – 5s added to race time for causing collision.
