Sept.14 also saw the inaugural #7 Rex Turple Memorial 1/2 Mile and the Parade of Legends.
Rex and Glenn Turple started Olds MotorcycleSales at their parents farm near Olds in 1949. They moved the businessto Gaetz Avenue in Red Deer in 1956. Originally they sold British and German bikes and soon used Harley-Davidson’s. In 1959 they became a Honda dealerand added Ski-Doo in 1968. In 1970 they were selling Honda A.T.V.’s and in1988 added Suzuki.Rex, who loved hill climbing, Motocross and flat track racing; passed away in 1990. The business continues with family running it. In 2000 they moved to their large location on Gasoline Alley in Red Deer. Turple Brothers have been synonymous with motorcycles and racing for seven decades in Alberta.
The Parade of Legends saluting Rex were : his brother Glenn (age 91, his son Gordon (current racer), Don Galloway (current racer), Bill Sutherland (age 71, current racer), George Wells (current racer and the days flagman), Terry Wells (current racer) and Del West (retired racer).
